Winter at Bosque del Apache doesn't attract a large number of photographers every year for nothing. Host to a variety of wildlife including large numbers of Snow Geese and Sandhill Cranes, photographic opportunities are plentiful. The refuge is especially famous for the morning Snow Goose "blast off", when tens of thousands of geese take flight simultaneously in the breaking light of day.

 

I focus on your individual photographic objectives, and also utilize evening slide shows as well as in depth image critiques to study the fundamentals of composition. In the field, we will work on flight photography, using ambient light and when necessary, using flash to your advantage. Learn to make artistic images of the Snow Goose "blast off" against dawn fall colors. Every morning offers a different backdrop, some saturated with fiery colors, others overcast in blue. With plenty of subjects and photographic opportunities, Bosque is an ideal place for a workshop.

During this workshop we will not only experience Bosque as a location, but we will also concentrate some of our off-shooting time on digital photography and digital editing using the latest equipment and techniques in a small informal classroom setting. This makes for a unique upportunity to really hone your skills.

White Sands National Monument Extension on Dec 10 add $150
Morning at Bosque, afternoon at White Sands - returning late to Soccorro. Participants will have the option to shoot White Sands on Dec 8, on their own, with local lodging. (must be registered for Dec 4-6 as well to participate in the White Sands Extension)

*On the off chance that White Sands is closed for missile testing on Dec 10 we will photograph all day at Bosque instead - this will not be known until that morning!
